United Airlines will not be punished over a high-profile incident in which a man was dragged off his overbooked flight.
Viral video showed a 69 year-old man forcibly removed from a plane after refusing to give up his seat.
Dr. David Dao suffered a broken nose, a concussion and lost teeth in the April incident, but we’ve just recently learned United will not be fined for its rough removal.
On September 6th consumer advocacy group Flyers Rights shared a copy of a letter obtained through an open records requests.
The letter sent to United from the Department of Transportation, says the airline committed several rules violations.
Nonetheless, it concludes that "enforcement action is not warranted in this matter ."
Flyers Rights President Paul Hudson calls the inaction a " dereliction of duty ".
Meanwhile, Dao has already reached a settlement with the airline and United has revamped its policies to prevent any similar incidents moving forward.
