An ecologists in Australia has said Australians should eat more kangaroo meat in response to the marsupial’s booming population.
In a September 10th news report, Associate Professor David Paton, from the University of Adelaide, told ABC Newsthe rising kangaroo population is limiting biodiversity in Australia, so codes are necessary.
He added “we also perhaps should think about what we might use animals that are killed for."
Paton suggested people eats more kangaroo meat, so the carcasses aren’t wasted.
High rainfall in recent years has reportedly led to increased food for the animals, contributing to their population growth.
Government figures show the overall kangaroo population last year was nearly 45 million, almost 20 million more than in 2010.
The animals now outnumber Australians nearly two to one.
Peyton said“ it’s not the Kangaroos’ fault, they’re over abundant, we’ve just been too reluctant to actually prevent the damage being caused."
