Thieves in the small British town of Hatton Conquest have made off with a rather unusual heist - the entire roof of a church.
When cleaners came to the 14th century All Saints Church on October 2nd, they noticed sunlight was streaming through the ceiling.
The heist reportedly would have netted the thieves about 20 tons of lead.
Police think the theft took place over "a prolonged period of time," and say the burglars may have posed as workmen to avoid suspicion.
One church member said, "this is devastating, it has caused a lot of stress. We don’t have enough volunteers as it is, it just takes the wind out of your sails."
Church officials estimate to restore the roof, it could be as much as one hundred thousand pounds or 130 thousand dollars
- an amount they fear the small community may have trouble raising.
Treasurer Joyce Bullock said," I don’t know how we are going to pay for it. I just pray everyday that nothing else happens."
