A terrifying rumble, sudden deluge of mud as the cascade crashes through, horrifying on lookers used to seeing such events.
This flash flood in the Alpine town of Chamoson caught residents and passers-by by complete surprise, resembling a torrent of volcanic lava.
The massive flow had been triggered by a storm, which caused a nearby riverbed to expand and burst its banks,
sweeping across roads, damaging everything in its path as the mud hit with sudden violence and speed.
Nearby homes were evacuated.
There was one major comfort for residents.
Miraculously no one was hurt in the oncoming wall of mud and rocks.
Now there is the clear up and a reminder of the devastating effect of such a powerful and destructive natural phenomenon.
