With election day finally here and countless Americans threatening to move north of our border if certain candidates win the presidency,it begs the question.
How easy is it to actually move to Canada?
According to Toronto immigration lawyer Michael Quinn, there are 3 main routes to becoming an official Canadian.
You can have a special skill or profession.
You can join immediate family members who are residents already or you can claim political asylum as a protected person.
Out of the 3,joining family is traditionally the easiest path.
With qualifying for the skills categorization also a viable option.
If someone is a professional,we have categories for them that is easy to meet.
Anything from Doctor to lawyer,to scientists to teacher.
If you are a grocer,it is harder, says Quinn.
Claiming to be a protected person or being a part of refugee does not apply to Americans.
Even if you find an option that works for you,be prepared to pay up and practice patience.
A simple application to join a spouse in Canada can cost anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000 dollars with a waiting period that can take several years.
