Russian president and dog lover Vladimir Putin has received a cuddly gift for his 65th birthday.
Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow presented Putin with a Central Asian Shepherd puppy as a belated birthday present on Oct. 11.
Berdimuhamedow raised the puppy high before handing it over to Putin who cradled it in his arms and kissed its head.
The puppy named Verny, meaning loyal, will join Putin’s fluffy family of two other dogs that includes Buffy the Bulgarian Shepherd and Yume the Akita Inu.
Buffy was a gift from Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, while Yume was given to Putin by the governor of Japan’s Akita prefecture.
The gift giving took place before summits for the Commonwealth of Independent States and Eurasian Economic Union,attended by several central Asian and eastern European leaders.
Reuters reports Turkmenistan hopes to resume natural gas exports to Russia, which were halted last year over a price dispute.
